I have been receiving messages from my left-leaning compatriots almost every day, composed with varying degrees of indignation and politesse, wondering how the hell I could possibly be supporting Justin Trudeau, or for that matter, living here in Quebec, why am I the least bit interested in the Liberal Party?
Let me say first off that there are many issues with which I am not at all at peace in the platform Trudeau has presented so far, the most important being the issue of the tar sands and pipelines….His advisor on environmental issues is the former head of the World Wildlife Federation, Gerald Butts – perhaps we could corner him for a few hard questions. What I really admire about Justin Trudeau is his commitment to listen and learn from all Canadians. I am not interested in having another despot ruling this country. I think it is time for a different form of governance – as syrupy as this might sound to some of you -one that is truly by the people.
I know Justin Trudeau, his wife and family. They are for real, folks! This is not a salesman and a snow-job, as some have suggested. They are deeply spiritual (not religious), and hold a vision of a Canada where all citizens are free to achieve their highest purpose. I believe that this man has the capacity to unite all of Canada and to restore our reputation as a caring nation, engaged in the well-being of the planet and its people. I believe that his optimism and lack of cynicism, that some mistake for naïveté, are what we all desperately need – so much so that we have a hard time believing it to be true.
I am offended by many of the actions that Pauline Marois has taken on behalf of Quebeckers. I am horrified and ashamed of the damage done to this country by Stephen Harper.
I was proud of Trudeau when he said that he would rather be in a sovereign Quebec than one governed by Stephen Harper – I think that he voiced the opinion of many Quebecois – and was thoroughly pissed off by all the twists that the media and politicians fabricated out of it.
That Justin Trudeau is a Liberal is not so important to me. I’m fed up with party politics, actually. I would love to see someone at the helm of this country who is committed to consultation – to acting on the wishes of the Canadian people. I think that Justin Trudeau is capable of this, and is the only real option for a united nation. We do not need any more smart and smarmy politicians. We need a team captain, not another chess player. We need leaders who can listen to their own hearts and who can feel the heartbeat of the nation.
Evo Morales and Jose Mojica have also come under criticism for being too idealistic, and before you throw things at me for mentioning Justin Trudeau in the company of these men, ask yourself who has the passion, devotion, curiosity and simple goodness of heart to stand as Canada’s leader beside them – Stephen Harper? Thomas Mulcair? The only other option for me is Elizabeth May, who I love because of her stance on the environment and for her erudition and quickness of spirit, but who I think would not be able to string together the disparate forces of this country. The good news is that with Justin Trudeau in power, she would be listened to, not ridiculed or ignored….

En tout respect, si ce n’est pas du cynisme de la part d’un “libéral” dire préférer être dans un Québec souverain plutôt qu’être gouverné par Harper, je me demande ce que c’est…
Il ne faut pas réouvrir le débat constitutionnel selon lui, les gens sont préoccupés par bien d’autres choses a-t-il dit….il oublie que si Harper a tant de pouvoir, c’est que la constitution (fièrement rapatrié par son papa) lui en donne plus que jamais, et que toutes nos préoccupations en matière d’injustices sociales sont précisément intimement liées à la répartition de ces pouvoirs constitutionnels, et du peu de respect à l’égard des provinces. Pas de cynisme, dans ses affirmations de Justin Trudeau? Permettez-moi d’en douter…beaucoup. Qu’il soit spirituel dans sa vie privée, m’importe peu, mais qu’il le soit autant dans sa vie publique, me fait franchement peur…
Je pense que nous avons peut-être deux définitions de cynisme très différentes….et que vous punissez le fils pour les péchés du père. Que J.Trudeau bénéficie de son patrimoine est souvent répété, mais qu’il en souffre, surtout au Québec, est aussi évident. Pour moi, le cynisme implique une carence d’honnêteté qui n’existe pas chez Justin Trudeau. Et je vous jure que son intention est de rester fidèle à ses croyances personnelles malgré le milieu dans lequel il se trouve actuellement. Ce que je trouve rafraîchissant chez cet homme est sa capacité de rester lui-même, et de ne jouer ni le caméléon ni la marionette. Il change ses idées parfois, avec le temps et des renseignements supplémentaires, que je trouve aussi honnête et respectueux…et une source d’espoir. Merci pour votre commentaire….

You ought to peek at Yahoo’s front page and watch how they create post headlines to grab people to click. You might try adding a video or a picture or two to get readers excited about everything’ve got to say.

I have never been one to err on the side of sensationalism, and have never been much into the marketing mentality, either….My approach has been to tone down that aspect of things, although when I’ve had the time, I’ve added some photos.
I have to cram my writing into a very limited amount of time and often simply don’t have the skills to jazz it all up quickly enough for the time available.
My priority has just been getting the information out there, and I trust the right people will read what I write.
